ABOUT THE SHEPARD HOUSE
The Shepard House is a historic brick building located on Santa Fe Avenue in downtown Burlingame, Kansas.
Originally constructed as a wooden structure by Henry D. Shepard (a local banker and mayor of Burlingame), was destroyed by fire in 1903. At the time it housed the Paul Orlopps drug store, Turner brother’s restaurant, Shepard hotel, Cusworth and Green barber shop, Reifsnyder and Stahl cigar factory / store, and Bratton and sons meat market.
In 1906, the current structure was built as the brick and stone landmark that stands today. Since being rebuilt, the building has housed a variety of businesses, including a hotel, dentist, bank, sandwich shop, café, etc.
In April 2025, David and Sam Garrison partnered with Sam’s parents, Brett and Robin Ridgeway, to purchase the Shepard House and establish Shepard House Enterprises. With a focus on community and long-term revitalization, the Shepard House will once again serve as a destination in downtown Burlingame, including:
-
The Den Bar & Grill
-
Sweet Savings Bank Ice Cream Parlor
-
Stone Hall Rental Venue
-
Shepard House Laundromat
-
Shepard House Apartments
-
Short-term Airbnbs
Together, these spaces are designed to bring new life, energy, and opportunity to one of Burlingame’s most cherished landmarks.
